FAQ

No. In addition to our Asian landscapes, guests can also take on the role of a researcher on a botanical mission in the interactive Discovery Centre or make friends with our animal residents when taking a stroll around the exhibitions: from koi carp in the Japanese Garden to myna birds in Borneo to the tropical butterflies and the white-handed gibbons in the new enclosure built in 2021.

You are allowed to take photos for private use without professional equipment. When doing so, please remember to respect other visitors and switch the flash off for our animals’ sake. If you would like to take photographs for commercial use or wedding photos, please contact our events team.

The flowers in botanika bloom shortly before those outside in the Rhododendron-Park. Our camellias in the Japanese Garden start flowering in early February before the azaleas transform it (and the Mendehaus) into a shimmering sea of pink and red hues in March and April. The Himalayas are awash with colour in April and May in particular. In our Borneo and New Guinea exhibitions, you can admire the flowers of the impressive Vireya rhododendrons all year round. There is no specific “flowering period” where the tropical butterflies live either. The best time to experience the Rhododendron-Park in full bloom is usually from mid-April to early June – but please note: the exact period varies from year to year depending on how warm or cold our spring is and how much rain we have.

Lost and found items are stored in the shop. Please feel free to call us if you realise you are missing something. For items lost and found in the Rhododendron-Park, you can also contact the botanika shop or the park administration on +49 (0)421 42706615.

Yes. Thanks to our Tropical Greenhouse, we can now display free-flying butterflies almost all year round. We only have to close the display for around two weeks each year for gardening work. The regular botanika opening hours also apply for the Tropical Greenhouse.

Dogs are welcome in the Rhododendron-Park on a short lead. Unfortunately, they are not allowed in botanika or the Botanical Garden.

No. The triple ticket is valid for only one person and for 12 months from the date of purchase. It allows one adult to visit on three separate occasions over the space of a year.

Eating and drinking are not permitted in the botanika greenhouses or Discovery Centre. You can find the Bloom restaurant directly next to botanika.

The combi ticket is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and includes a single visit to each of the attractions within these 12 months. The ticket expires if not used in time. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds.

The official name of the complex is “Botanischer Garten und Rhododendron-Park Bremen” (Bremen Botanical Garden and Rhododendron Park). The Botanical Garden is located in the Rhododendron-Park and botanika is right next to the Botanical Garden (in other words, also in the heart of the Rhododendron-Park). The majority of the botanika exhibition areas are “inside”, while the visitor areas of the Rhododendron-Park and Botanical Garden and exclusively “outside”. The Stiftung Bremer Rhododendronpark (Bremen Rhododendron-Park Foundation) is responsible for the maintenance and management of the park landscapes as well as the care of the plants in botanika’s greenhouses on behalf of botanika GmbH. botanika is a non-profit limited company of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.
