botanika GmbH is arecognised non-profit organisation and, as Bremen’s environmental education centre, makes an important contribution to communicating the topic of biodiversity. Be it in the scope of programmes for nursery groups and school classes, group visits or individual exhibition experiences, biodiversity is a key aspect of everything we do. Our extensive plant collection, our interactive Discovery Centre and our selected animal population form the basis of our activities. With a general donation, you can support the core area of our work.

SPONSOR AN ANIMAL!

Koi carp, chameleons and gibbons – it’s really wild at botanika. Many of our animals have been favourites with the public for years. Do you perhaps have a favourite animal that you’ve always wanted to have a personal connection with? You can make this dream come true for yourself or a loved one here and become a sponsor for an exotic animal. We aim to provide our animal residents with habitats which are as species appropriate as possible. This includes the equipment of the respective aquarium, terrarium or enclosure as well as a varied and species-specific diet and plenty of activities to keep them occupied.

SUPPORT NATURAL SCIENTISTS!

At botanika’s education centre, it is possible to conduct research directly on plants. Pupils of all ages and students of natural science subjects can learn and research in the Grüne Schule (Green School) and Grünes Forum (Green Forum). In addition to biology and botany, the topics communicated include important related fields such as ecology and bionics. 

The non-profit botanika Foundation was founded at the end of 2009 to secure the long-term future of the education centre. It has proven a great success: endowments from private and public funds as well as donations to support the ongoing work confirm the centre’s popularity with the City of Bremen, its citizens and local entrepreneurs. You too can invest in the encouragement of enthusiastic youngsters and contribute to the development of biological and botanical education in your area! 

Gibbon donation

SHOW US YOUR SUPPORT!

Their names are Knuppy, Yuna, Wody and Jupp – four white-handed gibbons who have found a new home with us since autumn 2016. Having become rare in the rainforests of their homeland in Southeast Asia, they are vital ambassadors for species conservation. Our gibbon enclosure with an outdoor area and heated indoor quarters was made possible in 2021 thanks to a generous donation from a private benefactor.  

We want our gibbons to feel in their element, strong and healthy. This requires the right diet and plenty of activities. You can support our efforts with a donation.  

Peace Buddha

A BUDDHA FOR EUROPE

The Peace Buddha for Europe is in Bremen! The 2.4-metre-high gilded statue was installed in the Japanese Garden at botanika in August 2017. In the long-term, however, the plan is to construct a new building for the Peace Buddha. We would really appreciate your support in achieving this goal! If you are interested, you can admire a model of the new building in the botanika foyer and make a donation for the Peace Buddha for Europe. 

Symbolising peace and international understanding, the Peace Buddha was a gift from the Dalai Lama to the continent of Europe: “A prerequisite for peace is respect for otherness and for the diversity of life,” said the Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
